Is DJI cheaper in Japan? Store prices, tax refunds for visitors and what to check

Japan’s DJI store against every other DJI store, in US dollars or Indian rupees, from daily store data, plus the November 2026 tax refund for visitors, drone registration, radio rules and warranty.

DJI Index checks the DJI store in Japan once a day, along with every other DJI online store it follows. The table below sets Japan’s price for popular DJI drones, cameras, gimbals and microphones against the cheapest DJI store, converted to US dollars or Indian rupees.

What the store data shows

DJI store prices: Japan and the cheapest store

Base kit of each product in DJI’s official online stores, checked in the 72 hours before this page was built, converted to USD and INR. Δ is how much more the store costs than the cheapest tax-inclusive DJI store.

DJI's listed prices. Stock is checked once a day, only at the DJI store ranked cheapest for each variant, and shown with the date of that check; elsewhere stock not checked — check the store before buying.

The table is built from the store prices committed on the day this page was built, so it changes as DJI changes its prices. It covers DJI’s own online stores only: other shops in Japan set their own prices, and a tax refund (below) is not included.

Every store’s price for one product is on its page, for example DJI Mini 5 Pro or Osmo Pocket 4. Japan’s store by category starts at drones in Japan. For the stores nearby, see is DJI cheaper in South Korea? and buying DJI in Taiwan.

Can a visitor order from DJI’s Japan store?

DJI’s Japan store says it delivers orders only within the country where the order was placed, by Yamato or Sagawa, and asks buyers who want delivery to a temporary address such as a hotel to contact the store first (DJI Japan store shipping page). Plan for a delivery address in Japan, and ask before relying on a hotel.

Tax-free shopping for visitors

Japan’s standard consumption tax rate is 10%, of which 2.2% is local consumption tax (National Tax Agency: Tax Answer No. 6101). Non-residents without Japanese nationality, such as visitors on temporary visitor status, can buy goods for export without that tax at a permitted tax-free shop, which checks their passport (National Tax Agency: Tax Answer No. 6559).

From 1 November 2026, the scheme works as a refund. The tax-free shop sells at the price including consumption tax; customs confirms at departure that you are taking the goods out of Japan within 90 days of purchase; the shop then refunds the tax. The minimum stays at JPY 5,000 excluding tax at one shop on one day, and the separate rules for general goods and consumables are merged (National Tax Agency: refund method from November 2026).

The refund is paid by the shop or by a refund operator it contracts with (Japan Tourism Agency: page for travellers). The tax law does not set how: the National Tax Agency gives bank transfer, credit-card or app remittance, and cash at the departure port after the customs check as examples (National Tax Agency: the refund method). Ask the shop how and when it pays, and whether it charges a fee, before you buy.

DJI Index found no DJI page saying that DJI’s Japan online store sells tax-free. The refund applies to what a tax-free shop charges, so compare that shop’s own price, not the DJI store price in the table.

Flying a drone in Japan

Japan requires drones and model aircraft of 100 g or more that fly outdoors to be registered, and no unregistered unmanned aircraft may fly (MLIT: Unmanned Aircraft Registration WebPortal). This includes visitors: a drone flown during a temporary stay must be registered and fitted with Remote ID, and the registration system is open to foreigners (DIPS-REG frequently asked questions).

Japan lets visitors use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices brought from abroad for 90 days after entry, within listed frequency bands (MIC: devices brought into Japan). The ministry’s leaflet for visitors lists drones on the 2.4 GHz band only among devices that may be used, and drones on other bands among those that must not (MIC leaflet for visitors).

Warranty

DJI’s after-sales policy for Japan applies only to DJI products and parts bought from the Japanese stores it lists, such as the DJI online store and authorised dealers, and says that products made for other markets cannot be serviced in Japan (DJI Japan after-sales service policy). DJI’s global policy says there is no global warranty: service is given in the region of purchase, and repair elsewhere may cost extra (DJI after-sales service policy). DJI Care Refresh must be bought in the same country or region as the product (DJI Care Refresh service terms). More in DJI China version vs global version.

Bringing it home

Your home country’s customs rules apply when you return, whatever Japan refunds. India, for example, prohibits importing drones outside narrow exceptions that need DGFT authorisation (DGFT Notification No. 54/2015-2020). See bringing DJI products into India and importing a DJI drone, and the tourist tax-refund guide for other countries’ schemes.
