Is DJI cheaper in South Korea? Store prices, tax refunds and drone rules

South Korea’s DJI store against every other DJI store, in US dollars or Indian rupees, from daily store data, plus the tax refund for visitors, drone registration and flight approval, and warranty.

DJI Index checks the DJI store in South Korea once a day, along with every other DJI online store it follows. The table below sets South Korea’s price for popular DJI drones, cameras, gimbals and microphones against the cheapest DJI store, converted to US dollars or Indian rupees.

What the store data shows

DJI store prices: South Korea and the cheapest store

Base kit of each product in DJI’s official online stores, checked in the 72 hours before this page was built, converted to USD and INR. Δ is how much more the store costs than the cheapest tax-inclusive DJI store.

DJI's listed prices. Stock is checked once a day, only at the DJI store ranked cheapest for each variant, and shown with the date of that check; elsewhere stock not checked — check the store before buying.

The table is built from the store prices committed on the day this page was built, so it changes as DJI changes its prices. It covers DJI’s own online stores only: other shops in Korea set their own prices, and a tax refund (below) is not included.

Every store’s price for one product is on its page, for example DJI Mini 5 Pro or Osmo 360. South Korea’s store by category starts at drones in South Korea. For the stores nearby, see is DJI cheaper in Japan? and buying DJI in Taiwan.

Can a visitor order from DJI’s Korea store?

DJI’s Korea store says orders can only be shipped to the country where the order is placed, and that the country on an order cannot be changed afterwards (DJI South Korea store shipping page). Ordering online from it needs a delivery address in South Korea.

Tax refunds for visitors

South Korea’s standard VAT rate is 10% for all industries (National Tax Service: VAT rates). Foreign visitors staying in Korea for less than six months can claim tax back on purchases of KRW 15,000 or more at shops in the Tax Free scheme (Korea Tourism Organization: duty free and tax refunds).

Some shops take the tax off at the till. For that immediate refund, a single payment must be at least KRW 15,000 and under KRW 1,000,000, and the traveller’s total for the trip must not exceed KRW 5,000,000 (Korea Tourism Organization: duty free and tax refunds).

The goods must be sent out of Korea within three months. At departure, you show the goods, the refund vouchers and your passport to customs for export confirmation (Korea Tourism Organization: tax refund guide). Get that confirmation before you check the item in: Incheon customs says a later refund is not possible for goods checked in without it (Incheon Main Customs: tax refund).

DJI Index found no DJI page saying that DJI’s Korea online store takes part in the refund scheme. The refund applies to what a Tax Free shop charges, so compare that shop’s own price, not the DJI store price in the table.

Flying a drone in South Korea

Korea’s transport ministry requires drones over 2 kg maximum takeoff weight, and every drone used for business whatever its weight, to be reported to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (MOLIT: rules on unmanned aircraft). The weight DJI lists for each drone is on its product page, for example DJI Air 3S.

Whatever the weight or purpose, flight approval is needed in no-fly zones, in controlled airspace within 9.3 km of an airport, and at 150 m or higher. The no-fly zones include areas near the armistice line, parts of the airspace over central Seoul and the surroundings of nuclear power plants, and aerial photography needs a separate permission from the Minister of National Defense (MOLIT: rules on unmanned aircraft).

Warranty

DJI’s Korean after-sales policy says service may not be available in some regions, may differ between regions, and may be charged outside DJI’s normal service area (DJI South Korea after-sales service policy). DJI’s global policy says there is no global warranty: service is given in the region of purchase, and repair elsewhere may cost extra (DJI after-sales service policy). DJI Care Refresh must be bought in the same country or region as the product (DJI Care Refresh service terms). More in DJI China version vs global version.

Bringing it home

Your home country’s customs rules apply when you return, whatever Korea refunds. India, for example, prohibits importing drones outside narrow exceptions that need DGFT authorisation (DGFT Notification No. 54/2015-2020). See bringing DJI products into India and importing a DJI drone.
